MiCampus Mobile Application — how we collect, use, and protect your information.
MiCampus ("we", "us", "our", "the App") provides a campus events and community platform that allows students, faculty, and staff to discover, create, and participate in campus events, manage their profiles, and receive related notifications. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the App, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have regarding your information.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account & Profile Information
When you register and use the App, we collect the following information that you provide directly:

1.2 Event & Activity Data
As you use the App's event features, we collect:
- Events you create, including title, description, venue, date/time, category, rules, and banner images
- Events you favorite, join, or attend
- Volunteer registrations and assigned roles (e.g., Stage Manager, Tech Support, Registration, Photography)
- Role switches between "participant" and "volunteer" for events
- Certificates issued to you for event participation/volunteering
- Editing permissions if you are granted co-organizer/editor access to an event
1.3 Communications & Notifications
- In-app notifications and inbox messages, including read/unread status
- Push notification delivery tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging token) and basic device identifiers, used to deliver event alerts and organizer messages
- Notification topic subscriptions based on your role (e.g., all users, students, or faculty)
1.4 Device & Technical Information
- Device identifier and device type/operating system (used to register for push notifications)
- App session data such as login status and onboarding completion, stored locally on your device
- Authentication tokens used to keep you signed in, stored securely on your device
1.5 Media & Files You Upload
- Profile pictures and event banner images you choose to upload (via camera or photo gallery)
- Documents/files you upload for event certificates or review submissions
- Posters you generate within the App, which may be exported or saved to your device's gallery
2. Permissions Used by the App
The App requests the following device permissions, which are used only for the purposes described:

You may decline or revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings; some features of the App may not function properly if certain permissions are not granted.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account, and authenticate your login
- Operate core App features such as event discovery, creation, registration, and volunteering
- Display your profile and activity (e.g., events attended) to relevant users such as event organizers
- Send push and in-app notifications relevant to your role and activity
- Generate event posters and participation certificates
- Personalize recommendations based on your stated interests, department, and role
- Maintain the security, integrity, and proper functioning of the App
- Respond to support requests sent to our contact email
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- With other users: Your name, profile photo, bio, role, and event participation/organizer status may be visible to other users of the App as part of normal event and community features.
- With event organizers: If you register, favorite, or volunteer for an event, the organizer of that event may see your name, role, and registration details.
- Service providers: We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (a Google service) solely to deliver push notifications. Your device's notification token is shared with this service for that purpose.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
- Business transfers: If MiCampus is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your account, profile, and event data are stored on our servers (micampus.co.in). Uploaded media (profile pictures, event banners, certificates, and review files) are stored on our servers in dedicated upload directories. Authentication tokens and basic session preferences are stored locally on your device.
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including the use of authenticated, token-based API access. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account and activity information for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide you with the App's services. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or update your personal information directly within the App (Edit Profile)
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information
- Withdraw consent for push notifications by disabling them in your device settings
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your information

8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for use by college/university students, faculty, and staff and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will take steps to delete it promptly.
9. Third-Party Services
The App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (provided by Google) to deliver push notifications. This service may process device identifiers and notification tokens in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. The App does not currently integrate third-party analytics, advertising, payment, or social login services.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App and/or updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this document. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, without regard to conflict of law principles.
